Fun in the Sun

During the summer in St. George it’s very hot and miserable outside. You look for anyway to get out of the heat but still at the same time enjoy some fun outside. There’s a place in the community that allows for fun in the sun but still at the same time to avoid the heat. This place is Sand Hallow Reservoir in Hurricane. People have compared Sand Hallow to Lake Powell only smaller. It has Cliffs and same rock structure as Lake Powell. The rocks are colored the same as Lake Powell’s and have the same look just they are smaller. If they were bigger I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the middle of Lake Powell and the middle of Sand Hallow. The people in this community should feel lucky to have a place this amazing.
For the people in the community that is fortunate enough to own a boat they can go to Sand Hallow and use their boat. Boating is an excellent community activity and great for families. It brings you together and that is important for a good family. When boating you can tube, ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, and if you have the right kind of boat you can surf. The reason this takes a special type of boat is because you have to make a bigger wave in order for the person to have something to ride. With a boat you can see more of the reservoir then if you didn’t have one. I am sure that you could find some different places that are not accessible by just swimming. These places are fun to explore and give something to do.
If you are not lucky enough to own a boat you still can enjoy Sand Hallow as much as the people that do own a boat. There is swimming and the water is really nice and refreshing. Later on in the year the water gets cold but by that time you are not looking to get out of the heat so it is okay. I would recommend swimming out about a quarter of a mile to a small island of rocks. This island has small cliffs that are good to jump off of. The water is deep enough so that you won’t get hurt when jumping, but I would always check before jumping just in case.  There are two spots that’s I have been to that are good to jump from.  A bigger cliff that is about 25 feet is a good size for most people. The smaller of the two is around 15 feet and is a good size for everyone. I have seen kids around the age of 5 jumping off it. There is another set of cliffs that you don’t have to swim too but I have never been there or seen them because they are around the corner from where we park. I have heard they are a lot like the other cliffs just not out in the water.  These cliffs are nice for the community because they give people something to do when they get bored. With a College only a short distance away it is nice for College students to do something instead of stay inside and play video games all weekend. If I had not gone to Sand Hallow a few times then I would have more than likely spent that time sitting on the couch doing nothing rather than being active and getting some exercise.
The reservoir is a great place for the community to enjoy themselves and have fun together. We should be lucky to have it and take care of it so that we can use it in the future and everyone can enjoy this magnificent reservoir.
