Interview

For my interview I went to the Health and Wellness center here at Dixie State College. I talked to two people Eva Batty and Barbra Johnson. We talked about some of the things that they have seen from freshmen in College and what parents could do to help prevent these things from happening.
The most common thing that the Health and Wellness center sees from freshman are depression and anxiety, home sickness, ill prepared relationships and drugs. Depression and anxiety are seen lots from people as a cause of other problems that are not handled right away. These problems come from moving away from home, being on your own for the first time. Making choices about money are very common. A budget is also something that students are never used to and will spend more money than they have causing them stress over money. Credit cards are new for many freshman and they don’t know how to use it properly. Shopping will cause problems as well. Cooking can be something that kids don’t know what to do and will cause them serious stress.
Things parents can do before their kids leave for school is help to train them before they even think about leaving for school. You can teach them about money and how to run a balanced budget. Cleaning and cooking are things that they must know before they get older or they are hard to do when you move out on your own.
This information will help with my paper because it will give me a better outlook on what the major causes of freshman struggling with school are. When I am looking for other sources I can use parenting books and college guidelines to make points of what parents need to teach their kids.
